News from Alan Hardcastle
Dear all,
The Blog is a terrific idea. Yes, Steve has done a great job in getting the year of 67 back in touch with each other.
Last January (2009) Ken (and wife Takako) Nichizu held a 60th birthday party at his home at Mount Pleasant (Wollongong) and a number of Old (elderly) Grammarians attended.....
This is the second tour of duty for Ken in the Illawarra. He works for a Japanese company and specialises in its ceramics operations. I have attached some pix from that night. The people in the pix include Chris and Lynne Tyrrell; Theo Magoulis, Don and Margery Phillips; Grant Nuttall; Steve P; and Jamie Raynolds.
I am at a bit of a disadvantage re. attending social gatherings as I still work full-time, pretty much 6-days a week, 51-weeks a year. It's hard to get away with constant deadlines and/or business trips. Most of the 67ers seem to be well and truly retired.
My potted history is financial journalism cadetship on the Sydney Daily & Sunday Telegraphs early 1970s; gravitated into business magazines and worked in London (1975) and Hong Kong (1978 and 1979). Then specialised in industry/trads mags, based in Sydney. For the past 16 years my wife Angie and I have been publishing the Australian cleaning/hygiene mag (INCLEAN) from our Illawarra home. I have a daughter Annie from my first marriage who is an architect/town planner and lives/works in New York; and from my second marriage a daughter Nina who is a nurse at Royal Childrens Melbourne; and a son Nick who is a Ph D medical radiation physics and is doing his post-doc at University of Wisconsin, Madison. Outside of work my interests are an involvement with the Uni of Wollongong Rugby Club; regular gym classes; and body surfing.
All the best
Alan
